At this price, however, it is not likely to become much more improved in terms of hardware, though software can be expected to improve somewhat. As for my rating, I gave 3 stars, as although it takes good scans, much more data could be extracted from the slides to create a better scan (not quite the same as what can be extracted from a Nikon slide scanner). Noise is present in the scans, and the scanner takes much longer than the HP scanner, which used to take about a minute to scan a frame, whereas this scanner takes about four minutes per frame. The HP software allowed me to select the frames myself, but there is no such option on the Microsoft software. Additionally, sometimes the frame is cropped automatically depending on the slides it detects. It is not possible to get a scan that is uncompressed. My camera's 5 MegaPixels produces images that are 2MB, so it must be doing a lot of compression. JPEG files containing the scanned Slides at 3200 DPI are only 700 KB in size when scanned at 3200 DPI. Although I quickly realized that it would never replace a standard slide scanner, I wanted to give it a try. My Photo Impression software wasn't up to snuff as it crashed a couple of times, so I got rid of The Bizcard tool has never been used by me. As for the Epson scan software, it was also quite functional, with all the usual controls such as histograms and curves. I loved the look of the product, and was impressed with how fast it was delivered from Amazon An ideal texture for solidity and smoothness. The old scanner uses a SCSI card with ISA slot and is not compatible with the new one. Initially I wanted to scan my slides and negatives, but I needed to replace my old HP Photosmart Slide scanner (2400 DPI) with my new computer.
